Devon played a big part in ensuring the victory of World War Two. We hosted evacuees from all over the country, Valerie tells us about how people felt about having evacuees staying in your home. In the blitz, we had some of the most heavily bombed cities in the country, Plymouth and Exeter. Devon hosted the practices for the D-Day landings, known as Exercise Tiger, Laurie explains the more personal side of the tragic accident that happened on that day. Devon held very important Prisoner of War Camps, including the ones at, Halberton, Tavistock and Holsworthy. Tiverton was the centre of many lives in the war, as well as the Parachute manufacturers - Heathcoats Factory. Even people in the innocuous village, Halberton, were affected greatly in the war. Airfields - such as Dunkeswell and Smeatharpe - were vital to many of the Battles carried out in World War Two. Land Girls were a vital part of the farming community, as shown in the propaganda used, Ruth tells us what it was like to be a Land Girl.
