The Prisoner of War Camp was situated at what is now Stanhope Close. Many of the prisoners were sent to work on farms in the parish. The prisoners were dropped off daily to the farms, where they harvested crops and drained the land.
The prisoners also were set to work crafting for the community. St. Peters Church has a crucifix, which was carved by a German prisoner, and two stained glass windows (as shown here) crafted by the Italian prisoners.
